Today's Three: Triathlons in May and June

It's been a lot of road races and running lately, so we'll go back to our roots and dive back into multisport. 

Today, we're highlighting three triathlons that opened for registration this week: 

• ​Nanki Shirahama Triathlon (Wakayama)
• Goto Nagasaki Baramon King International Triathlon (Niigata)
• Gamagori Orange Triathlon (Aichi)

Nanki Shirahama Triathlon (Wakayama) |  May 21

• Applications: Jan 16-Feb 10 (results Feb 25)
• Olympic Distance
• Resort town known for beautiful white sand beaches and hot springs. 
• Applications for entry are assessed by race organizer and athletes are selected by organizer discretion based on race experience and geographic diversity. 

• Athletes with no triathlon experience should not apply; proof of triathlon race experience AND triple COVID vaccination required.​
• Flying to Shirahama recommended; only Japan Airlines flies direct from Haneda. Limited express trains also connect from Osaka.

Goto Nagasaki Baramon King International Triathlon (Niigata) | Jun 18 

• ​General Entry: Jan 15-31(FCFS; about 300 slots for A Type and 120 slots for B Type)
• Priority Entry: Dec 26, 2022-Jan 13, 2023
• A Type: S 3k, B 154.8k, R 42.2k | B Type: S1.6k, B 101.7k, R 21.1k

• Once the home of IRONMAN Japan from 2001-2009, the Goto Nagasaki International Triathlon (also called Baramon King) is a regular on the domestic long-distance triathlon race circuit. Read more about the history of IRONMAN Japan.
• The A Type has changed from a 3.8k swim to 3k and the bike from 180.2 to 154.8, but the run remains the same at 42.2k for a total of 200k this year compared to 226.2 in previous years. 
• Similarly, the B type has shortened to a 1.6k swim from 2k, 101.7k bike instead of 124k, and the run remains a half marathon. Overall, the original 147.1k is modified to 124.4k. 
• In addition, the race now ends at 2030 instead of 2200 - start time at 0700 remains the same.

Gamagori Orange Triathlon (Aichi) |  Jun 25

• General Entry: Jan 16-May 12 (FCFS)
• Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic Distance
• ​​A popular standard distance triathlon in Aichi with elites (U23 and juniors) racing on Saturday and age-group on Sunday.
• In the past, this has been a 2-lap swim, 4-lap bike, and 3-lap run - but the course map has not yet been updated for 2023 (as of Jan 16).
